Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating (UFH) is a modern and increasingly popular method of heating a home that provides warmth from the ground up. Unlike traditional radiators which use convection to heat the air in a room (often leading to hot ceilings and cooler floors), UFH uses radiant heat. This system works by circulating warm water through a network of pipes laid beneath the floor. The heat radiates gently and evenly from the entire floor surface, warming the objects and people in the room directly. This creates a uniquely comfortable and consistent ambient temperature, eliminating the cold spots and draughts commonly associated with radiator systems.

Key Advantages

One of the biggest advantages of underfloor heating is its energy efficiency. Because it has such a large surface area to radiate from, the system can run at much lower water temperatures (typically 35−45∘C) compared to radiators (which need 60−75∘C). This reduced energy demand can lead to significant savings on heating bills, and it makes UFH an ideal partner for modern, low-temperature heat sources like ground or air source heat pumps.
